Noise Station
A downloadable tool for Windows
Noise Station is a music tracker/sequencer inspired by Amiga sample-trackers. The sounds are created using 'engines' - boxes which create or process sounds. You can line these up to create complex sounds.
Noise Station was first released in 2001 for Windows 98, and was published as a boxed product in the first decade of the century. It is now free. After over 15 years without significant updates, v1.23 was released in August 2024 with a major GUI overhaul to work on Windows 10/11 computers, followed by v1.24 with 32-bit FLOAT export, improved wav loader, a modulator/sample graph, and more.
I used this software to create two or three albums of work, including the first version of The Spiral Staircase, some tracks from The Flatspace Soundtrack, and many early game themes like the theme to Radioactive.
I've included a few example Songs: The original (unused) theme to The Heart of Aorkhan, and the theme to PC game Overlander.
This is powerful software when you know how to use it. It has a unique, somewhat tinny, high frequency sound at times, and supports some uncommon audio effects like Oscillator Synchronisation.
As of v1.24, Noise Station © 2001-2024 by Mark Sheeky is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
